Remote identification in Signi

Modified on Tue, 11 Jun at 10:12 AM

Why deal with remote identification

Both companies and individuals are transferring many of their activities into the digital realm. One of the significant advantages is the elimination of geographical barriers - various activities can be done from anywhere. Ordering from an online shop, sending money, or filing tax returns can all be done from home, work, vacation, or even a hospital bed.

Electronic signatures are also possible. Every electronic signature involves a certain level of identification of the person signing.

This varies depending on the type of signature. The standard in Signi is a biometric signature supplemented by two-factor identification via email and phone, where the audit trail of each signature is quite broad, including time, device IP address, and so on see document control sheet. Higher levels of verification are provided by signatures via BankID SIGN or qualified signatures.

When and how to identify in more detail

Sometimes, however, an electronic signature is not sufficient, and it is necessary to remotely verify / authenticate / identify a person.

One of the situations concerns those who, according to the Anti-Money Laundering Act (AML law), must identify those with whom they conduct business. The law applies to so-called "AML obliged entities" such as financial intermediaries, real estate agencies, accounting firms, tax advisors, and others.

Alternatively, organizations may choose a certain level of identification for some of their activities themselves to have increased legal certainty. They will be able to prove well that a specific person is indeed involved in a given legal relationship.

Signi now offers two methods of remote identification, each of which allows verification at different levels:

What comes after identification

After remote identification of the individual, the signing of necessary documents can proceed using the chosen signature methods, as outlined in the Signing Process and Types of Signatures in Signi.
